How to use neuropad® ?
The perspiration gland of the foot fulfils two important tasks: with evaporation it takes heat from the surrounding area and cools. Secondly it prevents the skin from drying out.
Should neuropathy of the foot occur, this gland becomes damaged and over a period its function becomes compromised. In time normal perspiration ceases - the skin dries and is susceptible to further damage resulting in potential diabetic foot syndrome.
neuropad® indicates by way of a colour changing pad the functional efficacy of the gland of the foot. By indicating an early reduction of function prophylactic care can be adopted and so reduce the potential for DFS.
neuropad® is applied as an adhesive plaster and is positioned.
Normal findings If the reaction pad is completely coloured pink, the condition and protective functions of the skin are intact
Abnormality If the reaction pad stays blue, the protective functions of the skin are impaired. The skin is (too) dry, lacking in elasticity and mechanically insufficiently resilient. These findings should be reported to your doctor to enable him/her to advise you on skin care and the remaining resilience so that, if possible, development of diabetic foot syndrome can be prevented
Abnormality If only partial areas are coloured pink, the resilience of the skin on the sole of your foot is limited. Such findings should also be reported to your doctor for assessment.
